In case you missed the heartbreaking news or simply forgot and sadly found out by seeing the barricades reading ‘A New MoMa;’ The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, is now closed until October 21, 2019.
The Museum is undergoing a four month $400 million renovation. The final renovation will add about 40,000 additional square footage allowing for a smoother navigation through the museum and the ability to display more works from its permanent collection.
Upon reopen the museum plans to diversify its collection. The Museum currently lists 1,241 Picasso works online and may consider selling or trading some of Picasso’s works in order to acquire more works by women, Latinos, Asians, and African-American artist.

The affect this renovation will have on summer tourism remains to be seen. But one thing is for certain, once the Museum reopens tourism will be at an all time high from art lovers rushing to witness the renovations in person and see what additions have been added to its permanent collection.
