The New Museum is a major work in the history of art, museums and technology of the 19th century. The museum brings together objects and objects related to one another in three collections: the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Pre- and Protohistory and the Antiquities Collection . This overarching presentation allows visitors to understand the evolution of pre-and pre-historic cultures from the Middle East to the Atlantic, from North Africa to Scandinavia, in an unprecedented breadth and depth. The magnificent building of the Bode Museum brings together two collections: the Sculpture Collection and the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Coin Cabinet . In conjunction with European sculpture, works from the Gemäldegalerie are also shown. The sculpture collection captivates visitors with masterpieces such as Giovanni Pisano's "Pain Man" or Antonio Canova's "Dancer", with late Gothic German sculpture by Hans Multscher or Tilman Riemenschneider. The collection is one of the largest collections of older plastic in the world. Its beginnings go back to the Brandenburg-Prussian Kunstkammer. In the course of the 19th century, their directors Gustav Friedrich Waagen and especially Wilhelm von Bode made acquisitions of predominantly Italian and German sculptures for an expansion of the collection. The collection was conceived as a renaissance museum and presented in a historically new museum setting. Together with historical fixtures, the works of art were given an environment that was intended to convey the spirit of their time of origin.( Via: Bode)
